Why a bus?

It was this or a street car. (too soon?)

In Sepetember 2024 We bought this 2002 International school bus. Nate, Micah and Jason drove it back from Madison WI via playing a gig at the Contented Cow in Northfield MN, and then parked it in the parking lot of Brake Bread.

If you’ve been to Brake Bread you know that we don’t have enough space for indoor seating. There’s a l’il patio (so fancy we call it the poshio) and that works well some of the year (all of the year if you’re a Gockel), but we wanted something with more year around aptitude. So the plan is, buy an existing structure and turn it into seating. We looked at a number of options and this bus seemed like it just might have the potential to solve the problem.

A few years ago Nate was visiting his oldest out in Tacoma and they went to Lucky’s Drive-In which has a vintage city bus used for seating. That bus idea stuck in the back of his head and now we’re doing our take on it.

This is the bus as we found it in Madison WI. The previous owner, Wayne, is taking Nate out for a 5 minute lesson in “How To Drive A Bus 101”
